Serbian-Canadian violinist Maria Krstic has been named a “Rising Star” in both the 2018 Music & Beyond Festival and the 2017 Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival. Maria now attracts a large following and is known for her virtuosity and expressive style. Maria is a three-time first-place national winner of the prestigious Canadian Music Competition (strings). In 2016, she was the youngest competitor to reach the semi- finals at l’Orchèstre Symphonique de Montréal’s prestigious Manulife Competition. In 2018, she won the National Arts Centre Orchestra Crabtree Foundation Bursary Award. Maria holds the Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT) Diploma in Violin Performance. Maria has presented annual solo recitals since 2010 and has been a featured soloist with the Kanata Symphony Orchestra. She has performed as concertmaster and soloist with the Vyhovskyi Strings Ensemble. Studying since the age of four under Serhii Vyhovskyi and Olena Vyhovska, Maria has benefited from working with Boris Kuschnir, Yosuke Kawasaki, Helge Slaatto, Mauricio Fuks, Patinka Kopec, Jonathan Crow, Yehonatan Berick, Mayumi Seiler, and Jovan Kolundzija. Maria performs on a 1940 Piero Parravicini (Milan). Maria is accompanied on the piano by Ioulia Blinova.
Maria has performed with “In Concert for Cambodia” since the age of twelve.
Pianist Dan Soucy is a recent graduate of l'Université de Montréal with a professional diploma in Music Interpretation, having studied with Jimmy Brière and Maneli Pirzadeh. Previously, Dan attended the University of Ottawa School of Music, earning a graduate degree under the tutelage of David Jalbert. Dan graduated from the Crane School of Music with a Bachelor of Music under Eugenia Tsarova. In the summer of 2018, Dan reached the final round of the Canadian Music Competition in piano. Dan has received a number of scholarships, including the Crane Performance Award as well as the Gaston Héon and Albert Tunis Memorial Scholarships. Dan performed for “In Concert for Cambodia” in Montreal in May 2018.
Sophia Stoney holds degrees in piano performance from the University of Victoria (Bachelor’s degree) and the University of Ottawa (Master’s degree) and has studied collaborative arts with the Lafayette String Quartet as well as clarinetist Dr. Pat Kostek. Sophia has performed in masterclasses, both as a soloist and collaborative pianist, for artists such as renowned harpsichordist Colin Tilney, Jerome Lowenthal of the Julliard School of Music and David Lutz of the University of Music in Vienna. She enjoys playing with chamber ensembles and has a particular passion for the music of Ravel and Rachmaninoff. Sophia has also played principal viola for productions of oratorios and masses, as well as playing viola in a string quartet with her siblings. Sophia performed for “In Concert for Cambodia” in Montreal in May 2018. She has been instrumental in helping to organize today’s home concert.
